A copy of the sixth leaflet reached Switzerland and then Britain after Sophie and Hans Scholl were arrested. The British Ministry of Information recognized the leaflet's value as evidence of German internal dissent. They reproduced it under the title "A German Leaflet" and aircraft dropped approximately one million copies over Germany. The Nazi regime's attempt to suppress the White Rose and make an example of its members thus ultimately amplified the message it tried to destroy. Sophie Scholl was guillotined February 22, 1943, four months before her twenty-second birthday.

The Sten submachine gun's design made it prone to jamming in certain conditions. Gabčík stood in the road holding the useless weapon while Heydrich's car began to accelerate. Kubiš threw a modified anti-tank grenade that struck the car's rear wheel well. Heydrich's remarkable response — to get up, draw his pistol, and pursue the men on foot while carrying shrapnel and upholstery fragments in his body — is cited by military historians as an example of extreme personal courage entirely disconnected from the political context. He died nine days later of septicemia from the wound and fabric contamination. The Germans razed the village of Lidice in reprisal, killing all 173 adult male residents.

This motto defined what made Otriad Bielski different from virtually every other partisan formation in occupied Soviet territory. While other groups — including Soviet-sponsored partisans — typically turned away the elderly, families with children, and those unable to fight, Bielski explicitly accepted everyone. At its peak in 1944, the Bielski otriad sheltered 1,236 people, including a functioning school, bakery, clinic, and metalworking shop, in the Naliboki Forest of Belarus. It was the largest act of armed Jewish rescue during the Holocaust by a specifically Jewish organization.

The Huguenot village of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon in south-central France, led by pacifist pastor André Trocmé, sheltered an estimated 3,000–5,000 Jewish and other refugees during the German occupation. When police officials demanded lists of hidden Jews, the village simply had no lists — Trocmé had deliberately avoided creating records. When German officers asked why they helped, the response captured a moral philosophy: they did not categorize people by religion or ethnicity. The village was never systematically searched during the war and has continued receiving refugees from world conflicts since 1945.

Sendler used the codename "Jolanta" and obtained access to the Ghetto through a sanitation inspection permit. She organized a network that moved children in toolboxes with ventilated compartments, in garbage trucks, in suitcases with false bottoms, and via the tram that passed through the Ghetto. When the Gestapo arrested her in 1943, they broke both her legs and feet as torture; she revealed no names. She survived a death sentence through a bribed Gestapo official. After the war, she dug up the jars — but found fewer than 100 children with any surviving family members to return to.
